Google will shut down more services in the upcoming weeks and Google Labs site will be closed later today.

Here are the services that are being axed by Google, most of them effective from January 15, 2012:

  1. Google Code Search: This search engine allowed users to search for open-source code for programming over the web. This will also see the closing of Code Search API.
  2. Google Buzz: Counting on the new Google+, that has got more than 40 million users in its first 4 months, Google Buzz & Buzz API will be closed in a few weeks. Users will still be able to view their existing content in Google Profile and download it using Google Takeout.
  3. Jaiku: Acquired in 2007, it let you send updates to your friends. Google is working to allow users to download their data from Jaiku.
  4. iGoogle’s social features & apps: With the focus towards g+, social apps from iGoogle will be axed & most probably, will be merged into g+. iGoogle itself, and non-social iGoogle apps, will remain untouched.
  5. University Research Program for Google Search: It provides API access to search results for some approved academic researchers. This will be axed too.
  6. Boutiques.com and the former Like.com websites will be replaced by Google Product Search, later today.
Google has already closed many of its service like Aardvark in September. With these new shut-downs, Google is clearing its projects that are gathering dust to make space for new ones.
